Raised Online: How Online Harm and Eroding Trust Are Shaping Gen Z and Gen Alpha Behaviours

“Gen Z and Gen Alpha are growing up in the Wild West of the internet..."

In early 2026, Online Responsibility Network (ORN) commissioned new
research to understand how Gen Z and Gen Alpha experience online
trust and safety, what behaviours those experiences drive, and how these perspectives will shape the future of brands, platforms and digital parenting.

Research was undertaken by Bilendi between 28 January and 9 February
2026, with over 1,500 Gen Z, Gen Alpha and parent respondents across the UK. The sample comprised 505 respondents aged 13–17 and 524 aged 18–28, with a further 505 parents of 13–17 year‑olds providing a contextual benchmark.
